Growing Things Projects

This week we got a cool Lakeside Learning box from the library about growing things.  It was really cool and had lots of good ideas.  There were metamorphosis figures and plant growing activities.  We spent one day doing these activities and then did other stuff on other stuff.

Monday

We did a little fine motor work with a hole punch and number cards.  We also did an egg hunt with letter labeled eggs.

Tuesday

We worked with the Lakeside Learning box.  We read books, reenacted the book many times, put life cycles in order and talked about the life cycle of seeds.

Drake picked corn out of sand with tweezers.
Wednesday

We went to the library to learn about firefighters.  The firefighters talked about safety and what they did.  The kids also got to climb around in a fire truck.  Afterwards, we listened to firefighter books and did some art projects.

the firefighters said that the biggest problem with kids is
that they are scared of the firefighters in their gear because they look
scary and sound scary, so they hide.  It was crazy seeing Drake excited
about seeing the firefighters and as soon as he put the mask on his face
he got really scared.  I finally got him to  go up to the guy and touch his glove and
look at his eyes in the mask.

Thursday

We went to cradle school again today.  It was the last class of the year.  They are having a big party next week at the lake in town.  It was a really good class again and Drake really enjoyed it.  I can't wait for next year.

A few Archer pictures next.  A couple of weeks ago they had engineering lessons in class.  One of the projects that they did was to build a shelter for their monsters that had to protect the monsters from a hair dryer.  Archer worked with another boy in his class, Chase, and they came up with a structure that rocked!  He won an award for best engineering project.  It was really cool listening to how he collaborated with his friend and the techniques they came up with to make the structure do what they wanted it to do.

Archer reconstructed the structure at home that he made at school.

Dixie has decided that Archer isn't that bad.  She will even lay with
him in bed, when David isn't home and I am putting Drake to bed.
